Vision of the Department :

i ) To produce quality manpower for Information Technology ( IT ) development of the state as well as the country.

ii ) To impart highest education to the youths in general in the field of Computer Education.

iii ) To arrange remedial teaching for the upliftment of Computer Education for students of weaker section.

iv ) To lay emphasis on teaching and research in the field of Computer Science.

v ) To impart education of Computer Science and Information Technology to students of any stream who can not go for formal technical Computer Education in Universities and Engineering College through the various levels of courses of DOEACC and through IGNOU Computer Programmes.

Profile of the Department :

The Department of Computer Science was establish with initiative of the principal of the College Mr. G. P. Choudhury in 1995. Lalit Chandra Bharali College is the only College to run the Department of Computer Science smooth and efficiently since its introduction in degree level under Gauhati University.

In the year 1995:

* The Department permitted to teach the Computer Science ( General ) subject as Elective offered by Gauhati University in TDC ( Science ).

* The Department started conduction of some professional courses like ' One year Diploma in Computer Application ' short term courses like ' Three Months Certificate Course on Computer Application'.

In the year 1998:

* The Department had started a short term course and ' One month Summer Crash on Computer Application'.

* The Department started a Work Center of IGNOU for running Certificate Course in Computer ( CIC ), Bachelor of Computer Application ( BCA ), Master in Computer Application ( MCA ) Programme.

In the year 2000 :

* Apart from running the regular courses, from the year of 2000 the Department started conduction the Department of Electronic Accredited Computer Courses ( DOEACC ), 'O' Level Course under the provisional accreditation of the DOEACC Society with PROV 0- 0919 and ACCR NO. 0-1076.

* Maintenance Department of the College is born out this Department and its sister Department. The Department started to look after the maintenance of Computer system since 2000.

In the year 2001:

* The Department got a Project under the Employment Generation Training Scheme ( EGTS ) from the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Govt. of India worth Rs. 15 lakes in the year 2001 to train up SC/ ST/ OBC/ BPL Category of students in the field of Computer for a period of five years.

* The Department started the Major Course in Computer Science under Gauhati University in Degree level.

In the year 2002:

* From the year 2002, the Department has attained the status of Programme Centre of IGNOU for running Certificate Course in Computer ( CIC ), Bachelor of Computer Application with Code No. 0427 P.

* The Department conducted a certificate course for College Employees of Assam for a duration of three months ( forty days ) part time.

In the year 2003:

* The Department achieved the Full Accreditation of 'O' Level Computer Course with Full O 0334 and ACCR No. 1076.

* The Department conducted ten days ( forty hours ) Teacher's Training Programme in Computer Education for the faculty members of the College.

In the year 2005:

* The Department achieved the Provisional Accreditation for 'A' Level Computer Course with ACCR No. A 0504 PROV No. 0448.

In the year 2006:

* Opened Three year Degree Course ( Six Semester ) Bachelor of Computer Application ( BCA ) under Gauhati University.

Further Profile:

* From the date of establishment of the Department, the Department is gradually going on expanding its laboratory with the introduction of latest technology machines. At present the Department has well furnished air- conditioned laboratories with sufficient number of machines with LAN facilities.

* The performance of students of the Department of Computer Science is quite impressive since its inception.

* The teacher of the Department are highly qualified, skilled, skilled and competent with continues emphasis on innovation.

* The Department science its inception has been striving for providing quality education in the field of Computer Education in addition to generating resources for the development of the institution.

Project ( 200 Marks ) :

Project should be assigned after Semester-I Final Examination and will continue till the end Semester-II Minimum percentage for passing examination of DOEACC 'O' Level is 50% both for Theory and Practical. The Certification from DOEACC is issued only after student passes all the modules, practical and undergoes the project successfully. The DOEACC 'O' Level certificate is recognized as equivalent to Foundation level Course by the Govt. of India for the purpose employment video Notification No. 43 & 49 dated 1st March, 1995 and 10th April, 1996 respectively issued by Ministry of HRD, Govt of India. After qualifying DOEACC 'O' & 'A' student can go for further levels like 'B' level and 'C' level under DOEACC Society and also be compete for--

Teaching Learning Process:

a ) Class room teaching.

b ) Seminar, using audio visual like OHP of Department of Computer Science External resource persons are invited to deliver special lecture on the seminar day

c ) Extempore Speech/ Seminar inside the class.

d ) Assignments given to the students relevant to the syllabus.

e ) Unit Test.

g ) Evaluation of Practical is done on the basis of Assignments and Practical internal assessment.

LIBRARY FACILITY:

Two cards are issued against each students and one book is issued against one card. Students should deposit Rs. 1000/- ( Rupees one thousand ) only as Library Caution Money which is refundable after completion of the course. Reading room is available for study . News Paper, Computer Magazine are issued to the student during the working hours. The Department has its own library other than the main library available in the College from where students can consult some reference books during the working hours.

RULES & REGULATIONS:

It is obligatory to attend classes regularly and punctually. Willful absence from the class room lecture will be treated as serious breach of the College discipline. As a rule each student is required to obtain a minimum of 65% attendance of the total lectures delivered in each academic session.

A student shall not be eligible to sit for Final Examination if he/ she has not attended a minimum of 75% lecture delivered in each subject separately.

A student failing to attend classes for 25 days at a stretch from the date of commencement of classes shall forfeit his/ her seat.

IDENTITY CARD:

An identity card is issued to every student is be possesses by him/ her during the college hours.

SCHOLARSHIP:

Students are awarded both merit and other scholarship s prescribed by the Govt. of Assam. A student clearing the Modules of DOEACC 'O' Level at one sitting are eligible to avail scholarship from DOEACC Society.
