Lalit Chandra Bharali College,
established on 9th August, 1971 and situated at an easily
accessible location, was started at the initiative of some
benevolent persons of greater Maligaon area and the generous
financial help of the donor after whom the College is named. It
was established to cater to the needs of the students of
Guwahati and its periphery in particular and the state as well
as the entire NE region as a whole. The College is situated at
the eastern boundary of the N.F. Railway H.Q. and at the
foothills of the Nilachal Hills— the abode of the Mother Goddess
Kamakhya. The site of the College surrounded by the beautiful
Nilachal and Adinggiri Hills, which once served as the Western
Gate of the Mighty Ahoms, provide an environment of peace and
serenity ideal for both teaching and learning.
The College is situated about 3 K.M. away from Adabari Bus
Stand, 5 K.M. from the Gauhati University, 7 K.M. from the
Guwahati Railway Station and is easily approachable from all
sides.
The College is permanently affiliated to the Gauhati University,
registered under (i) 2-F (ii) 12 B of the UGC since 1994 and is
a member of the Indian College Forum.
The Arts stream of the College came under the Deficit Grant in
Aid System of the Govt. of Assam in September, 1983. The Science
stream, started in 1995 is managed by the College itself. The
Arts faculty of the College is imparting teaching in both HS and
TDC courses in Arts while the faculty of Science is engaged in
imparting teaching in Science and Technology in TDC Courses.
The College offers education for BA, BBA, BCA, B.Sc. and B.Sc.
(IT) under GU and HS (Arts) under AHSEC.
The College has been selected by IGNOU as a Partner Institution
under Convergence Scheme for imparting various courses of IGNOU.
